Cleveland Development Advisors and Village Capital Corporation in partnership with Capital Impact Partners is excited to announce that  applications  are  now open for the Cleveland Equitable Development Initiative (CLE EDI) Learning Series through Monday, July 29, 2024. We will accept  between 12-15 cohort members.  The CLE EDI is structured as a platform to train, and enhance  the capacity and confidence of emerging developers of color to deliver real estate development projects in the Cleveland market. The program focuses on the current real estate development environment in Cleveland and provides opportunities to developers through an eight month learning series.

Key Dates

  • Application is open July 1st through July 29th  11:59 p.m. EST. No late applications will be accepted.
  • Interviews for semi-finalists will be held  Monday August 19, 2024 - August 27, 2024 (into week of early August 28, 2023 if needed)
  • Notification of acceptance will be announced by Friday, August 30th. 
  • The tentative training sessions will be held Wednesday afternoons, bi-weekly from 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. EST beginning September 25th through the end of May 2024. Following each session, there we be will an optional 1-hour for networking. Training dates are subject to change.

Training is planned to be in-person for all of the learning series, however, we will be able to make virtual accommodations on a limited basis. In addition, we will be incorporating up to three (3) events/network-building opportunities.



Successful candidates for the program will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or Person of Color (BIPOC) and/or a racial or ethnic minority.
  • Demonstrate experience as a small-scale developer (either for-profit or nonprofit organizations) who is seeking to further their experience developing real estate projects and/or growing their portfolio. Because this is not an introductory program, candidates are expected to have some relevant direct real estate development experience.
  • Live in or have a connection to Cleveland, OH
  • Demonstrate a commitment to community development and neighborhood reinvestment in Cleveland through work on tangible real estate development project(s).
  • Commit to attend mostly in-person training on Wednesday afternoons (between 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. EST) during the months of September  2024 - May 2025 for up to 4 hours per week.
  • Commit to additional hours (4 – 6) weekly for assignments, advisor meetings, etc.
  • Demonstrate interest in responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for real estate development opportunities, with or without a development partner, within four – six months of completion of the program.

The program aims to focus on housing / commercial development firms that are owned by women, people of color, and/or communities who have been historically excluded or overlooked in Cleveland.
